I need a jug of wine and a book of poetry,
Half a loaf for a bite to eat,
Then you and I, seated in a deserted spot,
Will have more wealth than a Sultan's realm.
Lit.
or,
I desire a flask of ruby wine and a book of verses,
Just enough to keep me alive - and half a loaf is needful;
And then, that thou and I should sit in the wilderness
Is better than the Kingdom of a Sultan.
or,
The spring breeze caressing a rose is a joy to behold;
A lovely face in the meadow is a joyful sight too.
When yesterday is gone, it is no longer enjoyable;
Be merry and forget the past, for today is yours to enjoy.
